SUB-STATION WALL

The “Sub-Station Wall” is an installation, crafted from wood using traditional Chinese wood joinery techniques, is a testament to the intersection of time, adaptability, and the philosophical concept of the Ship of Theseus. Rooted in the past yet firmly rooted in the present, it is a reflection on how structures and meanings evolve over time. The central concept behind the “Sub-Station Wall” revolves around change, transformation, and the enduring essence of design. Taking inspiration from the Ship of Theseus paradox, this installation explores the idea that an object can remain the same while undergoing continuous change. Just as the Ship of Theseus, which had its parts gradually replaced, yet remained the same ship, the “Sub-Station Wall” invites viewers to ponder the nature of identity, transformation, and the passage of time. Each component is expertly crafted to interlock seamlessly, allowing for disassembly and reassembly at will. This technique serves as a metaphor for the ever-changing nature of our world, emphasizing the idea that the essence of an object transcends its physical form.
